Gamma Knife Center.

The Gamma Knife is a revolutionary instrument offering extraordinary precision in treating a range of brain tumors, blood vessel malformations and other neurologic disorders, all without making a single incision.

How is this possible? The Gamma Knife focuses the radioactive energy of 201 cobalt-60 sources on lesions and other targets in the brain. Individually, these low density beams are too weak to cause any damage. But when they converge on a target - like a brain tumor - they arrest the target's growth and cause death to the target cells. Meanwhile, healthy brain tissue remains safe and intact.

The Gamma Knife Center:
The only site for Gamma Knife treatment in
Northeastern Pennsylvania.

In the past, area candidates for Gamma Knife treatment had to travel to leading medical centers in New York or Philadelphia for treatment. Today, that need to leave home is a thing of the past, because Wyoming Valley Gamma Knife Center puts this highly advanced technology right here, right now. The Center is one of just a few health care facilities in the entire state to offer the Gamma Knife procedure. Along with leading edge technology, we offer a full range of modern health services - all to provide patients with the best possible care in every way.

A multidisciplinary treatment team

Patients of the Wyoming Valley Gamma Knife Center can look forward to treatment by a comprehensive team of neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, physicists, nurses and medical professionals, all of whom are specially trained in performing the Gamma Knife procedure. Patients can expect a complete evaluation in order to determine the most appropriate course of action. In all cases, the patient's personal physician is welcome to collaborate in setting the treatment plan, and he or she will be informed every step along the way.
